Evaluation Question 7

In media we were asked to make several films which showed different camera angle shots. On the left we can see our character rushing towards a door, we used the camera technique of over the shoulder shot and fast movements to reflect on her rushing. Instead of using the technique of other the shoulder we decided to use a different technique by developing out understanding of the different shot types. In the shot on the right we have our character sitting in total darkness by a desk, during this seen our character is seen slamming her badge on the table which reads 'Happy Birthday. We decided to do a high angle shot, instead of over the shoulder to refelcts on her emotions of 'upset', 'despressed' and 'small' as well as using a dark room with no lightning. I think that us developing the technique of a high angled shot helped in making our film more effective as it made our audience see that our character is sad and small and her emotions are getting the best of her.

Both these shots are smiliar as we used the technique of close-ups. The shot on the left is an extreme close-up of our characters face and we decided to use this technique as it helped to show the feelings of our through her expression rather than through the music in the background. However, we decided to use a smiliar technique of close-up but rather than making it extreme we made it a basic close-up. This was to show our characters have trust in one another as they held hands. I think that us developing the technique of extreme close up helped in making our film more effective as it reveals more and gives the audience a deeper understand.

Both these shots are the same as we used the technique of the 180 degree rule. The shot on the left is a middle shot of our characters having a conversation and the shot on the right is a shot of our main character walking.

We decided to use different types of shots to show the audience what our character is seeing. In the shot on the right we used an over the shoulder shot to show the audience what our main character is seeing. whereas, we decided to improve on this technuique by instead letting our audience see what our main character is seeing through her eyes. This helped to make our audience feel more involved within the film.

Evaluation Question 6

My blog:
I used my blog to put all the information i found together and create posts which reflect on the information in many ways. From my blog, i learnt the structures of blogs, what it involves and how to use different techniques to draw attention. For example, when talking about the different types of horror films i used a range of pictures to make my blog look more attractive.

Google:
I used google to help find out more information and gain a deeper understanding if only little information was given. I also used google to check if my understanding was correct and if there was any information i could add to my blog. I searched for websites such as, Wikipedia, which gave me several information and a deeper understanding. For example, I was told about the film 'Carrie' which related to our film, 'Wrapped up Revenge', however, i wasn't told the film in detail and therefore used websites through google to find out more information.

Youtube:
Youtube helped to put my words into actions, to show a better explanation and to reflect on what i was talking about. For example, when talking about the opening of scream, i used youtube to get a video of the opening sequence. This helped my peers to see what i was analysising in the blog and gain a better understanding visually. From youtube i learnt that putting information visually is also an effective way of getting a message across.

Photoshop:
I used Photoshop to put the frame captures taken from Premiere Pro onto a A4 sheet of paper to save it onto my blog. This was to get our image onto one sheet of paper to make it easier for us to put it on our blog and then analyse it.

Prezi:
I used Prezi to create a presentation of what our films will include. We were able to show this by having youtube clips, pictures and text. This made it easier for our audience to understand what is being said as we had visual images and videos to help explain.

Premiere Pro:
I used Premiere Pro to put the footage we filmed together and edit. We edited our film by cutting footage out, adding footage, adding audio and special effects into it. This helped to make our film look better as we were able to view it with the audio and special effects and cut out any footage we didnt need.

Evaluation Question 4

In Media, the term 'target audience' refers to a specific audience for which an advertising message is designed.  A target audience is determined by several characteristics. Depending on what happens in the film, marketing teams will consider the age and gender that will be most interested and suitable for. When defining a target audience, it is important to be as specific as possible as it makes it more easier to identify who the film is aimed at. For example, the film Running Scared's target audience is young adults and over (18+) as it contains large amounts of violence that will not be suitable for those of a younger age. Therefore, haven taking these into account i have decided my target audience are teens and young adults of both genders. I haven choosen teens and young adults because they are more likely to watch TV shows or go to the cinemas and watch a movie rather than adults or the elderly. Also teens and young adults have more time on their hands and are highly likely to spend their free leisure time watching their favourite shows or a film.

A person suitable for my target audience, for example is;

Name: Kayla.
Age: 18.
Gender: Female.
Favourite food: Pizza.
Favourite restaurant: Pizza Hut.
Favourite drink: Red Bull.
Favourite video games: Sims, Tekken and Dragonball Z.
Favourite shows: Supernatural, 90210, Misfits, Vampire Diaries and One Tree Hill.
Favourite films: Home Alone, Disturbia, Amityville Horror, Gridiron Gang and Loaded.
Favourite things to do during the weekend: Hang out with friends, shopping, partying, reading, playing an instrument and watching films and shows.
Favourite place to go on holiday: China, Australia, Egypt, America and Ghana.

Kayla Cohen is a 18 year old teenager who lives in London. She is an outgoing, fun, caring party animal. She likes to listen to music, watch her favourite shows on TV, hang out with friends and meet new people. Her favourite thing to do when out with friends is either going to clubs, restaurant or cinemas. She is a big fan of horror movies and one day wishes she could take part in one. Her favourite horror films include; Amityville Horror, The Uninvited, The Eye, The Haunting Of Molly Hartley, Drag Me To Hell and One Missed Call. In her free time she likes to watch shows that have a horror sense to it such as Supernatural and Vampire Dairies, Charmed.

Kayla is a classic example of what our target audience would be and this is not only because she is a big fan of horror movies but also watching TV shows that include any signs of horror. All her favourite horror movies named above reflect on our film 'Wrapped up Revenge' since they all include the conventions of a horror film such as; ghosts, villain, victim, scary music, screams, blood, dark, haunted etc. However, most of all, The Haunting Of Molly Hartley stands out since both films are practically based on a child getting bullied at school and have other trouble.

The fact that she watches TV shows which are based or have signs of horror in them plays an important role too. This suggests that she is used to watching something to do with horror on a daily basis and is not a stranger to the genre. The TV shows (named above) too reflect on our film. Both Supernatural and Charmed are about fighting those who are evil and have powers, however, since Kayla is familiar with this story line we decided to make our film less obvious - meaning that our character is the one with the powers instead of those she classes as  'evil'. This will help to keep her interested and focused as it is different.

Instead of using an attractive male playing as a leading man (as many horror films have), we wanted to make a female the main focus in the film as females are the ones who are more emotional, more likely to share their feelings and to sympathise with. This will help our audience feel her emotions too and come to terms with the way she feels.

Evaluation Question 3

Wrapped up Revenge may seem to start of with a similar beginning as other horror films but what makes it stand out are the effective ideas put together to make it more eye catching and interesting. After the launch of the film, we want our film to receive more positive views that criticisms and to be known as one of the best British horror films to date. When distributing our film, we want it to be shown in the well known cinema's including The Odeon Cinema Leicester Square. By doing this, our film will more likely been noticed and thus, help us get the film across to our target group in no time.

The media institution we would like to distribute our film is hammer Film Preoducations (1934). Hammer Film Productions (HFP) is a preoduction company based in the UK. HFP had low budgets but made their films appear extravagant with the use of phenomenal British actors and cleverly designed sets. Due to it's partnerships with famous US studios, such as Warner Bros, they have managed to dominate the horror film market, enjoying worldwide distribbution and financial success. It works in the genres of science fictions, thrillers, film noir, comedies and television series. It is well known for it's legendary films inlcusing: The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), Dracula films and a series of 'cave girl' themed films. Their films produced have often been praised by critics for their visual style. Therefore, having HFP distribute our film will help catch the eyes of our audience and hopefully, those who are not big fans of the horror genre.

To really get our film out there in the open it will mean that we will need to put our films on to several websites. We could do this by putting it up on Youtube and using sites such as Facebook and Twitter to

Evaluation Question 2

Our main character 'Alex' is represents the social groups of  both 'Emo' and 'Gothic'. The term 'emo' is stereotyped with wearing slim fit jeans, sometimes in bright colours, and tight t-shirts (usually short sleeved). Studded belts and black wristbands are common accessories in emo fashion. Some males also wear thick, black horn rimmed glasses. Emo's are also recognised for their hairstyles including: long side swept bangs, sometimes covering one or both eyes. Straightened and dyed black hair is considered to be popular. Bright colours, such as blue, pink, red, or bleached blond, are also typical hairstyles. Short choppy layers of hair are also common. Emo has been associated with a stereotype that includes being particularly emotional, sensitive, shy, introverted, depression, self injury and suicide.

Whereas, the Gothic subculture include: a dark, sometimes morbid, eroticised fashion and style of dresses. Typical fashion includes: dyed black hair, black lips and black clothes. Both male and female goths wear dark eyeliner and dark fingernails.

We decided to make out main character represent these two social groups, Emo and Gothic, since many of the members of these social groups are normally bullied for their choice of clothing. Therefore, since our character gets bullied we decided to make her represent these social groups. Also, the stereotypical traits of Emos fits our characters personality as she is emotional and sensitive. Her black hairstyle mirrors both of these social groups as her hair is jet black.

The similarity between our main character and the main characters in the film 'Tamara' and 'Carrie' are that they are all represented in a social group which gets targeted the most in schools. Both Tamara and Carrie are represented of social groups which are known as 'nerds'. Nerd is a term that refers to a person who enjoys intellectual activities, technical or scientific endeavors, or other obscure interests, rather than engaging in more social or conventional activities. The nerd may be awkward, shy and unattractive. Therefore, a nerd is often excluded from physical activity and is seen as a loner by school peers.

Within both films, both girls are bullied by their fellow peers also as our film. Also all characters are females. In the film 'Carrie' her vengeance is played out in a different way as our main character. However, in the film 'Tamara', the way the main character gets her vengeance back is similar to our main character as she decides to kill those who she hates one by one.

Evaluation Question 1

We decided to use the effect of having an oxymoron as our film title,"Wrapped up Revenge" (shown below), as it reflects on the fact that our film both challenges and conforms to conventions of horror film for it's opening sequence. Our title also reflects on the plot of the story, "Wrapped up" is based on the fact that it's her birthday and on birthdays presents are 'wrapped up' and then given. Whereas, "Revenge" has been used to reflect on her getting her revenge on those who have bullied her. Thus, because the plot contradicts we decided to have an oxymoron title which too contradicted. The horror film "Carrie" (1976) has a similar plot to our film, it is based on a girl with powers who gets bullied in school but is pushed too far on a special night and decides to get her revenge back.

In our film there are several shots (shown above) and effects that help to make it stand out and keep out audience involves. We decided to use the effect of having a pitch black background as our character's voice over is heard. The use of this helped to reflect on out characters personality, such as her being dark and gothic but also secretive and shy (not wanting to be seen). This too reflects on the plot and title of our story as our main character has a contradicting personality. The scene of the hallways is used to show her feeling isolated and left out as none of the girls in the scene is seen to say 'hi' or wave. The first image we get of our character is her in school, where we used an editing effect of 'slow motion' as this is when our character is finally revealed. We decided to use slow motion as the music is heard slowing down is used to reflect on how our character is feeling inside, sad and lonely - reflecting on her emotions.

One of the special effects we used was on the scene where our character is seen walking out of school after having enough of everything, as she walks we can clearly see that there is no one by her side, however, as the camera changes into a medium shot, another character suddenly appears out of nowhere who we later reveal is a ghost. The use of this effect was to make our audience jump and get more engaged with the film. We then have our character walking through a park gates which starts off with an establishing shot to show where she is and the surroundings of it. As she walks through the park we decided to have someone following her, this was done by using the effect of a hand-held camera and walking closely behind her. After, we use the sound of 'heavy weird breathing', having the camera moving in the movement of the swing and the special effect of a blur. This was to help our audience realise that the person is following her is not human - and also to frighten our audience.
