Evaluation Question 2

Our main character 'Alex' is represents the social groups of  both 'Emo' and 'Gothic'. The term 'emo' is stereotyped with wearing slim fit jeans, sometimes in bright colours, and tight t-shirts (usually short sleeved). Studded belts and black wristbands are common accessories in emo fashion. Some males also wear thick, black horn rimmed glasses. Emo's are also recognised for their hairstyles including: long side swept bangs, sometimes covering one or both eyes. Straightened and dyed black hair is considered to be popular. Bright colours, such as blue, pink, red, or bleached blond, are also typical hairstyles. Short choppy layers of hair are also common. Emo has been associated with a stereotype that includes being particularly emotional, sensitive, shy, introverted, depression, self injury and suicide. 

Whereas, the Gothic subculture include: a dark, sometimes morbid, eroticised fashion and style of dresses. Typical fashion includes: dyed black hair, black lips and black clothes. Both male and female goths wear dark eyeliner and dark fingernails. 

We decided to make out main character represent these two social groups, Emo and Gothic, since many of the members of these social groups are normally bullied for their choice of clothing. Therefore, since our character gets bullied we decided to make her represent these social groups. Also, the stereotypical traits of Emos fits our characters personality as she is emotional and sensitive. Her black hairstyle mirrors both of these social groups as her hair is jet black.

The similarity between our main character and the main characters in the film 'Tamara' and 'Carrie' are that they are all represented in a social group which gets targeted the most in schools. Both Tamara and Carrie are represented of social groups which are known as 'nerds'. Nerd is a term that refers to a person who enjoys intellectual activities, technical or scientific endeavors, or other obscure interests, rather than engaging in more social or conventional activities. The nerd may be awkward, shy and unattractive. Therefore, a nerd is often excluded from physical activity and is seen as a loner by school peers.

Within both films, both girls are bullied by their fellow peers also as our film. Also all characters are females. In the film 'Carrie' her vengeance is played out in a different way as our main character. However, in the film 'Tamara', the way the main character gets her vengeance back is similar to our main character as she decides to kill those who she hates one by one.
